A turntable has many important parts but without a phono cartridge, a record is just a flat piece of vinyl.
Founded in 1918, Ortofon focused primarily on sound film technology but in 1945 diversified into the world of phonograph technology. Numerous "pickup" technologies had come and gone in the first half of the 1900's but when Ortofon introduced their first moving coil magnetic cartridge in 1948, playback of the newly released 33 1/3 RPM vinyl record became an accessible reality. In the ensuing decades the company has produced a seemingly endless series of technological achievements in motor assemblies as well as cartridge body and cantilever materials.
Praised by audiophiles, entry-level analog enthusiasts and in vast numbers, DJ's, it is safe to say that the world of vinyl playback would be the poorer with Ortofon carrying the torch. For more information about Ortofon cartridges you're welcome to give us a call or visit the store.
