In the early 1970's the common wisdom was that bigger speakers made for better sound. Ivor Tiefenbrum, a young Scottish engineer, wasn't finding it to be the case.
In what would prove to be one of the most serendipitous experiments in audio history, he moved his turntable into a room away from the rest of the system and found that once the speakers stopped feeding music back into the turntable, the sound improved in every way. He realized that if you lose music at the source, it is irrecoverable. He put his efforts into improving numerous performance parameters of the turntable and soon thereafter, the legendary Linn Sondek LP12 was born. It was to become "arguably, the most important turntable of all time".
From that moment, it has been a constant series of innovations and improvements. Linn has continued to challenge the status quo; even their own. When they recognized the sonic superiority of their Klimax DS Music Streamer, they killed off their flagship CD player; the CD12. Such is their commitment to quality sound. A family owned business, they will continue to take bold steps and manufacture innovative products of which they, and their clients, can be proud.
